theme

  • PORTRAYALS OF FLESH is a thematic open call focused on the celebration of the body in its most honest form. This multifaceted group exhibition takes its cues from both the classic and contemporary styles of portraiture. We invite literal and abstract interpretations of portraits, which will create a nuanced interrogation of our perceptions of beauty. We want to see your journey of stepping outside the perceived notions of what beauty is, into what beauty can potentially be, though each artists chosen medium.

selection process

  • The selection process will consist of three rounds of screening, the results of which will be notified to all candidates.

  • The second round of screening will result in the shortlist of artists who will be featured in Vol. 2 of RICE Magazine. All shortlisted artists will also be able to submit 5 to 10 artworks to be auctioned in partnership with liveauctioneers.com.

about our feedback programe

  • We want to be the change we want to see in the art world. And we believe that starts with more equality and inclusion of underrepresented artists, but also with doing what no other organization is doing, which is helping our candidates understand why they were not selected and how they can improve. So, as mentioned above, for our second open call we have reached out to a growing list of renowned Artist Consultants and Artist Coaches, so that all the artists who are not selected can receive career-focused feedback about their proposals during a 10 minute video conversation (through Zoom or Skype) with a professional third party. The idea is for candidates to receive constructive advice of improvement for the future, not about their art or style, but about how to improve the way they present themselves professionally. These sessions are not mandatory, participating artists can decide to book the session or to turn it down.
