Why should you? Asking collectors, organizations or companies for money is always a serious task. One we are not taking lightly. Our mission is clear: we observe that there is an unacceptable high level of discrimination and exclusion in the art world targeting artists and curators who happen to be women or members of the LGTBQ community or racialized persons. Numerous statistics of these groups’ participation in gallery or museum exhibits and auctions around the world prove it. Since the art world has not been able to correct this on its own, RICE Initiative was born to counter and reverse this situation by favoring artists pertaining to those groups, without excluding the participation of every other artist or curator, to gain more visibility, exposure and sales through the publication of a new dedicated magazine and the organization of exhibits in partnership with mainstream organizations.
Awesome initiative, right? The world needs more clever projects that aim at improving those aspects our cultural systems are failing to address! We agree. The only thing is… and this is where it gets tricky: that all of it has monetary costs. So please, keep that in mind and how much you love and agree with what we are doing.
